Carbon for Omnisphere 2

Developer: PlugHugger

For decades, the Access Virus have been the industry standard for dance music productions, and with this soundset we set out to merge the sound of the 90s but with the less polished technology of the 80s and 90s.

For Carbon we started by selecting a large number of characteristic sounds and waveforms that defined the genre. Then we sampled all sounds into an Ensoniq EPS 16+ hardware sampler with fairly low quality settings and low sample rates. Together with sampling at lower input volumes

the result is what a Virus would have sounded like if it was released in the middle of the 80s: an edgy and modern sound coated in the sound from the 80s and 90s.

"carbon is a dance music soundset inspired by the music scene of the 90s, based on lofi waveforms from the virus synthesizer recorded with an old hardware sampler."

From the combined sounds of Access Virus and Ensoniq EPS, the samples were imported into Omnisphere for a fresh-up with modern pumping reverbs, chorus and bouncy delays. Apart from the tonal synth, pads and bass sounds, we also added effects and percussion elements from the Virus. As a last step we created 40 combined multi sounds based on the singles from the library.
